New Website and Pack Builder

2024-07-07

On Monday Fiordland Packs published a new website and pack builder at fiordlandpacks.nz

Those of you who have bought a pack recently will have seen an early iteration. Slowly over the last months I have been developing the new pack builder into a full website and it is finally time to turn off the old shopify site.

Fiordland Packs Pack Graphic

The new site allows you to interactivly build your pack, with a reactive drawing displaying your chosen pack.

It is able to guide your fabric choices in quite sophisticated and fine grained ways, so that you get the best possible pack.

The old blog from the Empty Packs days is back, extended with new posts. In our new world of large language models, crawlable, opinionated text will become much more important than it now is.

All together the new FP site is much easier for me to maintain and extend.

Coming soon, a new 75l alpine pack.

And eventually a Claude powered pack query bot, trained on everything I know.

If you have feedback on the new Fiordland Packs site please email me

If you need a pack, I have 2 weeks of work before a big exciting trip to the Kaipo and John o Groats to search for kiwi for the Skraak Project and the Hollyford Conservation Trust. I will be away from the 23rd of July until the 6th of August.

I leave you with a very interesting sound clip from Pomona Island. Any ideas?

Happy tramping

David
